Team England Wins World Schools Debating Championships

12 Aug 2016

Debate Mate is delighted that Team England has won the 2016 World Schools Debating Championships, and are thrilled that one of our students, Ife Grillo (Bridge Academy), was a part of the team. We couldn’t be prouder of the whole team, including the coaches, Lewis Iwu and Andrew Fitch. This is first time that a Debate Mate student has broken the mould, not only by being selected to represent their country, but by going up against the rest of the world and triumphing.

Students from across the UK participated in trials for the team in November; ultimately only five students were chosen through a highly competitive process to represent the country at the World Schools Debating Championships.

Ife joined Debate Mate together at Bridge Academy he was in year 8; and he went on to make the final of Debate Mate’s national competition, the Urban Debate League, in 2012.

Congratulations Ife and Team England!
